last Moday was the premiere of the film " See No Evil." Hundreds of fans and members of the global media were there to take part in the celebrations. WWE.com was of course there to peport on everything that was going on.
The scene at Orange County was just like being at a Hollywood premiere! Well I guess the wrestling stars are just as famous now!
The carpet was lined with barricades to hold back the crowds of fans. The media held up their microphones and cameras, hoping to get a word with the WWE Superstars as they went in to the theatre.
You could see spotlights from every angle, highlighting the giant 40-foot tall See No Evil movie posters which lined each side of the theatre entrance. Smaller versions of the movie poster, featuring WWE Superstar kane were also there to have a look at.
See No Evil is the first major motion picture release for the WWE Films and Lions Gate Films partnership and the wrestling stars put their differences aside(at least for the night)
The first WWE Superstars to arrive were a group of RAW’s Divas, all dressed to kill. The Divas arrived on local radio station Power 106’s huge limo bus, adding to an already raucous atmosphere as they got off the bus. Power 106 was a big part of the See No Evil promotion, giving away 200 tickets to lucky fans who won a variety of contests. Torrie Wilson, Candice Michelle and Victoria were all sporting custom made dresses, prepared especially for the special affair. The Divas were accompanied by a pair of “Divas” in their own right, Snitsky and his partner, the bizarre Goldust.
All the Superstars joined in the fun, wearing their best clothes to commemorate the evening. Among those that impressed on the red carpet were the Divas, as well as Mickie James, Maria, Lita, Triple H, JBL, Batista and SmackDown World Champion Rey Mysterio.
Mick Foley looked the part wearing a traditional black blazer with matching shirt. Unfortunately, Trevor Murdoch showed up to the all-star gala dressed in standard plaid vest with ripped hat and can of chew.
WWE Champion John Cena was also at the Century Theatre, having a close look at the events, which were a preview of what Cena himself will experience later this year when his first movie, The Marine, premieres this fall.
The cast and crew of See No Evil were also at the Century Theatre. Christina Vidal, Michael Pagan and Samantha Noble led the talented list of young actors and actresses involved with the film. Director Gregory Dark and Screenwriter Dan Madigan were also there to witness the events and take in the festivities.
Mr. McMahon, along with his wife, WWE CEO Linda McMahon, and his daughter Stephanie arrived in a stretch limo and were very excited about the event which was about to happen. Mr. McMahon said a few words before entering the theatre “This is a huge night for our company, we are all very excited, and very proud that we have finally arrived at this moment. We are all looking forward to seeing the movie.”
The star of the movie, Kane, was the last to arrive .He had a police escort to take the WWE Superstar and now actor’s limousine to the theatre. The See No Evil star was dressed in his normal wrestling gear, ready to fight if needed. The Big Red Monster stared at the press, and the fans, letting some take pictures, but not much else. Eventually, Kane made his way into the theatre and the movie was set to begin.
The movie was shown on two separate screens. The crazy WWE fans filled the theatre, and some even got to sit next to a WWE Superstar.
Before the movie began, Mr. McMahon talked to the crowd. “In the WWE, we tell stories for a living. We are a global marketing juggernaut and our stars are recognized in over 100 countries. Why limit our Superstars to just performing in the ring? Why not put them on the big screen as well? Our stars are far more recognized than the normal Hollywood actors, and far more talented. In the WWE, our talent does it all.”
The fans and celebrities in the Century Theatre were enthusiastic throughout the movie and after. At a couple points during the movie, the crowd erupted in a variety of chants which are often reserved for the arena environment.
WWE Champion John Cena enjoyed the movie, “As far as horror films go, it was a hell of a flick.”
RAW Superstar Viscera said “It was much better than I anticipated. It was good…real good.”
SmackDown Superstar and former World Heavyweight Champion Batista said “It was a really good movie. I really enjoyed it and it’s a great start for WWE Films.”
The fans all agreed. “Pleasantly surprised”, “Really intense”, and “Pretty cool” were common thoughts from the fans in attendance. One experienced fan offered another positive reaction. “I’m a big time horror movie fan, and See No Evil ranked up there with some of the horror genre’s best.”
The premiere was an unbelievable success, and the perfect way to kick off the countdown to the official nationwide release of See No Evil on Friday, May 19 in theatres everywhere.
